Orbital neurilemmoma. Presenting as retrobulbar neuritis.

چکیده
Neurilemmoma of the orbit is a localized, encapsulated, benign nerve sheath tumour which grows very slowly and possibly intermittently, and has no distinctive clinical features (Reese, I963). When large enough it causes exophthalmos and sometimes blurring of vision through pressure on the optic nerve (Reese, I963; Sharma and Kulshrestha, I961). The motility of the eyeball may also be impaired. This tumour has rarely been recorded in the literature and we have been unable to find any previous report that it may first present with the clinical features of retrobulbar neuritis.

Orbital high resolution magnetic resonance imaging with fast spin echo in the acute stage of Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy.
Some evidence suggests that the primary locus of the lesion in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) may be intraocular rather than retrobulbar. To clarify this issue, the condition of the retrobulbar portion of the optic nerve was evaluated in patients with the acute stage of LHON. High resolution MRI with fast spin echo sequences of the optic nerve complex in the orbit was carried out. F...
متن کاملRetrobulbar chondrosarcoma in a dog
This paper presents a review of a dog, with a retrobulbar chondrosarcoma, which was admitted for surgery for visible changes in his eye during inspection. Orbital neoplasia in dogs may be primary and secondary. Sixty percent of orbital neoplasia in dogs are primary, ninety percent of which are malignant. Retrobulbar neoplasms are rare and in their early stage represent a diagnostic challenge. C...
متن کاملDiagnostic and therapeutic doubts in retrobulbar neuritis in children.
Retrobulbar neuritis is often very complicated clinical entity. The most common cause of retrobulbar neuritis is demyelinating disease of CNS. This report is to express some other uncommon causes of it. Three children, age 8 to 12 with sudden and severe visual loss are presented. The diagnosis of retrobulbar neuritis is made by complete ophtalmological examination in consultation with neuropedi...
متن کاملA Congruous Superior Quadrantanopsia Following a Junctional Scotoma Induced by Asperogillosis
A 69-year old man presented to us with decreased vision in his right eye and a relative afferent pupillary defect. Under the presumption that he was suffering from retrobulbar optic neuritis or ischemic optic neuropathy, visual field tests were performed, revealing the presence of a junctional scotoma. Imaging studies revealed tumorous lesions extending from the sphenoid sinus at the right supe...

PURPOSE To report a case of orbital oculomotor nerve schwannoma extending to the cavernous sinus through the superior orbital fissure presenting with proptosis, but without any neurological sign. CASE REPORT A 32-year-old man presented with axial proptosis of his left eye. Visual acuity and other ocular examinations were normal. Orbital magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well-defined fusif...
